History
Aceh’s official provincial flag was adopted on 10 December 2007. It consists of a green field with the province’s coat of arms at the center. The green field symbolizes Islam, fertility, and the lushness of the region. Earlier Acehnese flags included banners of the Sultanate of Aceh and, later, the red flag associated with the Free Aceh Movement from 1976 to 2005.
