History
West Sumatra’s provincial flag uses green as a field color associated with the region’s lush landscape and Islamic heritage. The star and crescent motif is a longstanding Islamic symbol of faith and guidance, and the flag was officially adopted in the mid-1950s as a unifying emblem for the province and its territories.
