History
The 1821 flag of Psara was flown from the island’s warship during the Greek War of Independence. It combines the emblem of Filiki Eteria with a Christian cross, anchor, spear, serpent, bird, and the inscription «ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ Η ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ – ΨΑΡΑ» (“Freedom or Death – Psara”). The flag later reappeared during the naval battles of Elli in December 1912 and Lemnos in January 1913.
