History
The flag of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted on 5 November 1996 and remained in use until 14 June 2007. Its design was defined in law together with the federation’s coat of arms. The shield combined a golden fleur-de-lis on green, a red-and-white checkerboard of 25 squares, and a blue lower section with ten white six-pointed stars symbolizing the federation’s ten cantons. The former symbols were later declared discriminatory and were replaced in 2007.
