Flag of the Assyrians on a white field with a central light-blue four-pointed star, a golden sun disk, red-white-blue wavy rays to the corners, and a red Ashur emblem above.
The modern Assyrian flag was designed by George Bit-Atanus in 1968 and was formally adopted in 1971 at an Assyrian Universal Alliance congress. Its golden circle represents Shamash, the light-blue four-pointed star symbolizes the Assyrian land and tranquility, and the red, blue, and white wavy stripes recall the Tigris, Euphrates, and Great Zab. The figure of Ashur above the star pays tribute to ancient Assyrian heritage. This design replaced earlier early-20th-century Assyrian flags and became the principal symbol of Assyrian identity worldwide.
