History
The flag of Vladimir Oblast was adopted in 1999 as the oblast's civil and state flag. Its red field recalls historic bravery and the Soviet-era color scheme, while the blue hoist stripe links the design to the former Russian SFSR flag and expresses unity with Russia. The central lion with orb and scepter derives from the heritage of the medieval Vladimir-Suzdal principality and represents traditional royal authority.
