The flag of Tajikistan is a horizontal red-white-green tricolor with a gold crown and an arc of seven gold stars centered on the white band.
Adopted on 24 November 1992, the flag of Tajikistan was designed by Zuhur Habibullaev. Its design is an unequal horizontal tricolor in a 2:3:2 ratio of red, white, and green, with a golden crown and seven stars at the center. The red stripe is associated with bravery, unity, workers, warriors, and sacrifice, and also recalls the Russian and Soviet periods. The white stripe represents purity, morality, snow-capped mountains, cotton, water, peace, and happiness. The green stripe symbolizes nature, agriculture, renewal, life, and the fertility of the land. The crown signifies sovereignty and the historic Persian heritage of the Tajik people, while the seven stars symbolize unity and are associated with the seven provinces or the seven heavens. The flag marked a formal break from the Soviet-era flag and the beginning of independent statehood during the early 1990s.
