History
Sejong City was officially established in 2012 as a special self-governing city. Its flag uses a stylized form of the Hangul consonant “ㅅ,” the first letter of Sejong, shaped to evoke the eaves of traditional Korean roofs and pointing upward to express a future-oriented vision. The blue color represents progress, innovation, and the image of Sejong as a smart administrative city. The design also incorporates the four trigrams from the national Taegeukgi, linking the city to Korean heritage and symbolizing harmony, balance, creation, and development.
