History
Pingtung County adopted this flag in 1999 after a county-wide design contest. The design uses the county emblem and follows the common Taiwanese local-flag practice of placing a symbolic seal on a plain field. The emblem’s colors have been described as representing sky and sea, agricultural abundance, and the energy of the local population.
