History
Pakistan adopted its national flag on 11 August 1947. The dark green field represents the Muslim-majority population, while the white hoist stripe represents religious minorities. The white crescent symbolizes progress and the five-pointed star symbolizes light and knowledge. The design is credited to Amir-uddin Kidwai and derives from the flag of the All-India Muslim League, whose crescent-and-star motif was influenced by the Ottoman flag.
