History
This was the flag of Pakistan’s former North-West Frontier Province. Its green-and-white palette reflected Islamic and peace symbolism, while the emblem represented the region’s mountainous frontier landscape together with the crescent and star associated with Pakistan. Earlier and later versions differed in details, and after the province was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2010 the design was updated to use the new provincial name.
