History
The flag of Nineveh Governorate is a white field in 2:3 proportion with the governorate’s emblem at the center. The emblem depicts the leaning minaret of Mosul’s historic al-Nuri Mosque, representing the city’s cultural heritage, with olive branches symbolizing peace and the region’s agricultural tradition. The white field signifies purity and unity. The design has been in official use since the post-2003 reorganization of Iraq’s provincial flags.
