The flag of Newfoundland and Labrador is a white field with blue triangles at the hoist, two red-outlined triangles toward the fly, and a gold arrow centered horizontally.
The provincial flag of Newfoundland and Labrador was adopted on June 6, 1980 and was designed by Christopher Pratt. Its colors carry symbolic meanings: blue for the sea, lakes, and rivers; white for snow and ice; red for human effort; and gold for confidence and hope for the future. The two outlined triangles represent the island of Newfoundland and mainland Labrador, while the gold arrow points forward and can also appear as a sword when the flag is hung vertically in remembrance of military sacrifice. The design also evokes a trident, emphasizing the importance of the sea and the fishing industry, and intentionally recalls the Union Jack to reflect historic ties to Britain.
