The flag of New Brunswick is a gold banner with a red chief bearing a golden lion and a black medieval galley sailing above blue-and-white waves.
Adopted on 24 February 1965, the flag of New Brunswick is a banner of the provincial coat of arms. The golden lion on red refers to both the arms of England and the Duchy of Brunswick, from which the province takes its name. The lymphad above blue and white waves represents the sea, the arrival of United Empire Loyalists by ship, and New Brunswick’s historic shipbuilding tradition. The flag was designed by Robert Pichette and Alan B. Beddoe.
