History
Nevis uses a distinctive island flag that incorporates the national flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the canton. The national flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis was adopted on 19 September 1983 at independence. It was created by Edrice Lewis through a national design competition and formally approved by the College of Arms. Its green, red, black, yellow, and white elements symbolize fertile land, the struggle against slavery and colonialism, African heritage, sunshine and prosperity, and the twin ideals of hope and liberty represented by two stars for Saint Kitts and Nevis.
