The flag of Alberta is a blue field with the province’s shield of arms centered on it.
Alberta’s provincial flag was authorized by the legislature in 1968 and officially adopted on 1 June 1968. It has a 1:2 proportion and places the province’s shield of arms at the center of an ultramarine blue field, with the shield set at seven-elevenths of the flag’s height. The shield was originally granted in 1907 and represents the Rocky Mountains, foothills, prairie grasslands, wheat fields, and the red St. George’s Cross associated with the Hudson’s Bay Company and English heritage. Alberta’s provincial colors, blue and gold, were formally adopted in 1984.
