History
In 2001, architect Rem Koolhaas and his think-tank AMO introduced an alternative “EU barcode” design as a proposed symbol and visual language for the European Union. The concept merged the national colours of EU member states into vertical strips ordered longitudinally from west to east, and it was conceived as a flexible design that could change as the Union expanded.
