History
The flag of Guatemala’s Chiquimula Department was inaugurated on 11 September 2012. It was designed by Carlos Humberto Guerra Pinto after a public contest. The departmental coat of arms includes symbols representing the arts, enlightenment, the Sierra landscape, water resources, birds associated with the name Chiquimula, and eleven stars for the department’s eleven municipalities.
