History

The current flag of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a heraldic banner displaying the region’s arms, symbolizing the historic provinces of Auvergne, Savoie, Lyonnais, and Dauphiné. It was adopted in January 2018 and formally registered on 9 February 2018 after approval by the French national heraldic commission. Earlier regional flags used a white field with the regional logo from 1991 and later a blue field with the logo in 2016.
