First tricolour adopted
The yellow-blue-red tricolour was recognized as the national standard on July 15, after its first hoisting on July 14.
Eighth star added
Simón Bolívar's decree added an eighth star to represent Guayana.
Republican flag prescribedThis flag
The 1830 flag retained the tricolour and used a provisional coat of arms with downward-facing cornucopias.
Equal stripes established
The 1836 decree specified equal horizontal stripes and a new coat of arms on official-use flags.
Seven-star pattern adopted
The flag adopted in 1863 placed seven white stars on the blue stripe, six in a circle and one at its center.
Coat of arms added
The 1954 law added the coat of arms to the state flag; the civil flag remained without it.
Eighth star restored
The flag gained an eighth star and the coat of arms was revised.
