This flag is a former version of Serbia.
Red-blue-white tricolour establishedThis flag
A decree introduced the red-blue-white horizontal tricolour, establishing the design that underlies Serbia’s current flag.
Arms and stars added
The state flag gained Serbia’s coat of arms on the blue band and four stars on the red band; the plain tricolour remained the civil flag.
Ottoman stars removed
After Serbia gained independence, the four stars symbolizing Ottoman suzerainty were removed from the state flag.
Kingdom arms introduced
The state flag’s former princely arms were replaced by the kingdom’s newly adopted coat of arms, while the civil flag remained a plain tricolour.
Tricolour restored without star
The red-blue-white tricolour without the socialist red star became Serbia’s flag again, replacing the republic-era star-bearing flag.
State flag with arms adopted
Serbia adopted state and civil flag versions: the state flag placed the lesser coat of arms on the tricolour, while the civil flag remained plain.
Current design standardized
The flag’s colours and design were standardized, with a visual redesign of the coat of arms used on the state flag.
