This flag is a former version of Qatar.
Maroon unifying banner adopted
Qataris accepted Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani’s proposal for a maroon banner bearing the name Aladaam.
Serrated flag design proposed
A proposed design added nine points, maroon diamonds, and the word “Qatar”; FOTW says the proposed 1932 version may never have been used.
Present design shape adopted
The ruler removed the diamonds and the word “Qatar,” producing the flag’s present design shape, according to Qatar’s Amiri Diwan.
Current 11:28 version adopted
Qatar officially adopted the current flag, with its 11:28 proportions, on 9 July.
Flag specifications legislated
Law No. 14 of 2012 set out the flag’s technical specifications, including its color and design.
