The flag of Navarre is a red field charged at the center with the crowned coat of arms of Navarre in gold, featuring linked chains around a green emerald.
Navarre first used this flag as a regional symbol in 1910. Its red field reflects the color of the historic shield and recalls the banner of the medieval Kingdom of Navarre. The gold chains refer to the traditional arms of Navarre and are associated with the Battle of Navas de Tolosa in 1212, while the central emerald represents the battle trophy remembered as the emerald of the chains. The autonomous community formally adopted the flag by law in 1982, and symbols legislation in 2003 further regulated its official use.
