History
Kalmar County uses a vapenflagga, a square armorial banner based on the county coat of arms. The blue background elements allude to the Baltic Sea and the sky. The griffin associated with Kalmar symbolizes vigilance, strength, and historic authority linked to a medieval seal from around 1250. The modern official county flag was standardized in the mid-20th century within Swedish regional flag practice.
