History
The emblem represents the sun rising over the waves of the Pacific Ocean in the shape of a flower. Its seven colored petals or rays symbolize the county’s major ethnic groups: Amis, Taroko, Bunun, Kavalan, Sakilaya, Seediq, and Han. The wave motif evokes Hualien County’s coastal geography, and the sun signifies hope and renewal. The design was adopted by the county government in the early 2000s as part of a broader effort to promote local identity.
