History
The flag represents Gangwon State in South Korea. Earlier provincial symbolism for Gangwon used a white field and a centered emblem expressing the province’s natural landscape, including mountains, forests, the East Sea, and a rising sun. That design was selected through a public competition and was officially adopted in the late 1990s.
