History
The flag of Moscow was officially adopted in 1993. Its central image derives from the city’s coat of arms and depicts Saint George slaying a dragon, a long-standing symbol associated with Moscow’s role as protector and with triumph over evil. The red field continues a heraldic tradition connected with Moscow that dates back to the 17th century.
