the President of Ireland
#2146 · Ireland
Leinster is one of Ireland’s four historic provinces. Its flag displays a gold harp on a green field, a color scheme recorded from the mid-17th century. The harp is a long-standing Irish emblem, and the design is associated with Leinster and with heraldic traditions linked to the FitzGerald family. The green-harp banner was used in the 1798 rebellion, appeared in Daniel O’Connell’s Repeal movement in the 1830s and 1840s, and was flown during the 1916 Easter Rising. It remains the provincial flag used in sporting, cultural, and vexillological contexts.
