The flag of Catalonia, known as the Senyera, consists of four red horizontal stripes on a yellow field.
The flag of Catalonia is known as the Senyera. It was officially adopted as the flag of Catalonia on 25 May 1933. Its design derives from the medieval coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon and ultimately from the pre-heraldic symbols of the County of Barcelona in the 11th and 12th centuries. The red and yellow bars later became a lasting symbol of Catalan identity.
