Flag of the Canton of Zürich, diagonally divided into blue and white.
The blue-and-white colors of Zürich derive from the historic coat of arms of the city and have been in use since the early 13th century. The diagonal division is documented from 1389. In banner form, Zürich also used a red Schwenkel at the fly, often bearing a white Swiss cross, but the modern cantonal flag retains the plain blue-and-white diagonal field.
