History

Calabria uses a de facto regional flag with a blue field and the regional coat of arms at the center, accompanied by the inscriptions “REGIONE” and “CALABRIA.” The coat of arms was adopted on 15 June 1992. Its four-part disc includes a pine tree for the Sila forest, a Doric column for the heritage of Magna Graecia, a Byzantine cross recalling Byzantine influence, and a red empowered cross commemorating Calabrian crusaders led by Boemondo, Duke of Calabria.
