Flag of the Canary Islands featuring a vertical white, blue, and yellow tricolor with the regional coat of arms centered on the blue band.
The flag of the Canary Islands was made official on 16 August 1982 as the flag of the autonomous community. Its design originated in 1961 with Carmen Sarmiento and her sons Arturo and Jesús Cantero Sarmiento in the Canarias Libre movement. The white, blue, and yellow tricolor combines the blue and white of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the blue and yellow of Las Palmas. The state version bears the coat of arms, whose supporters are two Perro de Presa Canario dogs.
