Poortugaal is a village in the municipality of Albrandswaard, South Holland, the Netherlands. The flag of Poortugaal was adopted on May 3, 1965, as the official municipal flag of the South Holland municipality of Poortugaal . The flag is described as follows: Yellow in the hoist, red in the fly; at the dividing line between hoist and fly a blue eight-pointed star half the height of the flag, containing a red shield upon which, in a cross shape, five yellow shields are placed. The flag is derived from the municipal coat of arms. The blue star is taken from the stars on the shields, which are depicted without stars on the flag in the simplified coat of arms. The design of the flag is strongly reminiscent of the Portuguese flag . On January 1, 1985, Poortugaal merged into the municipality of Albrandswaard . As a result, the flag ceased to be used as the municipal flag. Elements of the Poortugaal coat of arms were incorporated into the coat of arms and flag of Albrandswaard.
