The national flag of Israel features a white field with two horizontal blue stripes and a centered blue Star of David.
The flag of Israel was adopted for the state in 1948. Its design grew out of earlier Zionist flags and uses a blue Star of David as a Jewish emblem, while the two blue stripes evoke the traditional tallit prayer shawl. The design was associated with the Zionist movement from the late 19th century and was codified by law later in 1948.
