The flag of Fiji features a light blue field with the Union Jack in the canton and a white shield from the national coat of arms on the fly.
Fiji adopted its current national flag on 10 October 1970 at independence. The design derives from the colonial Blue Ensign, changing the darker blue field to light blue and reducing the coat of arms to its shield. The light blue field represents the Pacific Ocean, the Union Jack reflects Fiji’s historical connection with Britain, and the shield includes a lion, agricultural products, and a dove symbolizing peace.
