History

The flag of Aomori Prefecture was adopted on 1 January 1961. It shows a green stylized outline of the prefecture on a white field. The green represents the prefectural tree, the arbor-vitae, and expresses hope for growth and development, while the white field symbolizes the boundless expanse of the cosmos. The official proportion is 7:10.
